STAPERT, Dirk "Dick"
Of Kalamazoo Went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, February 28, 2009. Dick was born December 24, 1919 in Kalamazoo the son of Milo and Pearl Kuik Stapert and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo area. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II and an active member of North Park Reformed Church where he served as elder and deacon; taught Sunday School; sang in the church choir, with the Men of Song; and the North Park Men's Quartet. Dick served on the Board of the Kalamazoo Christian Schools; and enjoyed fishing, singing, music, outdoor cooking, travel, and especially spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren. Prior to his retirement he was employed for 30 years with the Upjohn Company and 7 years with Kalamazoo Stationary. On June 20, 1941 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Dorothy Morren who survives. Also surviving are 4 sons, Bruce Freda Stapert, Douglas Sheryl Stapert, Bryan Laure Stapert, Bradley Bonny Stapert; beloved grandfather to 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Stuurwold; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Jacob, Charles, Elko, Raymond; 2 sisters, Winifred and Trena. Services will be held at 11:00 o'clock Wednesday at the North Park Reformed Church, 1316 Barney Rd, with Rev. Paul Fazio officiating. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to North Park Reformed Church Missions and Outreach or the Kalamazoo Christian School Association.
