NELSON, Dick W. Portage Mr. Nelson passed away early Monday morning, October 16, 2006 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. He was born May 11, 1922 in Lake Ann, the son of the late William and Pearl Wikle Nelson. Dick was a gunnery pilot in the United States Navy serving during World War II, and earning the rank of Lieutenant. In 1967, he founded Suburban Sewer in Kalamazoo, which later became Suburban Mechanical. He retired in 1983. Dick was a member of the Portage United Methodist Church and the Schoolcraft American Legion #475. On December 17, 1977, Dick was married to the former Norine Motter, who preceded him in death on December 21, 2005. Also preceding him in death are his parents; 2 children, Karen and Richard Nelson; and 1 grandson, James Acha. Surviving are 3 children, Andrea Larry Kelly of Kalamazoo, John Sharon Nelson of Scotts, and Michael Terri Nelson of Scotts; 3 grandchildren, Rachael and Amy Nelson, and Susan Yoder; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and 3 step-children, Sharon Wade of Portage, Edward Karen Lehrke of North Bonneville, WA and Karen Edward Wicks of San Francisco, CA. Graveside services with military honors will be at 12:00 noon on Friday at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, with Rev. John Moore officiating.
