MEEUWSE, Dena Cornelia
Of Hopkins
Formerly of Kalamazoo Passed away March 18, 2011 at home after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Dena was born September 6, 1926 in Kalamazoo the son Marinus and Lena Van Gemert Yzenbaard and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1944. She served as a hearing technician for the Kalamazoo County Health Department from 1964 to 1968. Prior to her retirement in 1987, she was employed with the Upjohn Company for 17 years; she volunteered at Bronson Hospital after her retirement. Dena was a lifetime member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. On December 20, 1949 she was united in marriage to Gerard Meeuwse who preceded her in death May 24, 2009. Surviving are 2 children, David Barbara Meeuwse of Hopkins, Mary Roger Hull of Oak Harbor, WA; 7 grandchildren, Nicole Meeuwse, Nathan Natasia Meeuwse, Joshua Rachel Meeuwse, Elizabeth Matthew Nienhuis, Lynne Ian Remijn, Kristin Theron Johnston, and Caleb Hull; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in law Sinnie Yzenbaard Kalamazoo, Johanna Yzenbaard Kalamazoo, Nettie Meeuwse Portage, Nellie Meeuwse of The Netherlands, Mary Anthony Bolle of The Netherlands and a brother-in-law Anthony Lena Meeuwse of Portage and many nieces and nephews. Dena was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Henry and Mark Yzenbaard and her sister Nellie Yzenbaard Meyers. Services will be held 11 o'clock Tuesday at the Langland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street with Rev. J. Zippro officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Monday evening from 6-8pm at the Westside Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Wings of Hope Hospice or the Netherlands Reformed Mission Fund.
