Delores "Dee" Jean Lumbard

Delores “Dee” Jean Lumbard, 94, of Plainwell, passed away peacefully in her home on May 12, 2024. She was born on December 26, 1929, in Kalamazoo to Frank and Bertha (Kemps) Hayward.

Dee married the love of her life, Clarence Lumbard, on January 3, 1948. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage until Clarence’s passing in 2011. They welcomed and loved two children, two grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; and loved them all beyond measure. Family meant everything to Dee, and she cherished every memory she made with them.

Dee taught Sunday School at Spring Valley Church where she made many lifelong friends. She also kept in touch with friends she had worked with before raising her family.

Not only did Dee enjoy gardening, but she raised beautiful flower beds and was known fondly as “flower lady” in her neighborhood. She was a wonderful baker and never missed an opportunity to treat her family to fruit pies, apple crisp, and cinnamon rolls.

She is survived by her children, Carole (Robb) Simpson and Donald (Susan) Lumbard; grandchildren, Daniel (Heather) Lumbard and Suzanne (Everett Jr.) Dean; 7 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Marjorie Bowling. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Clarence, an adored great-granddaughter Lindsay Raye Dean, and her siblings Frank Jr., Robert, Donald, Marcella, and Diane.

Funeral services for Dee will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9^th St. Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Friends are invited to visit the family from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, a funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM with Pastor Greg Carlson officiating. A luncheon will follow at the funeral home. A graveside service will take place the same afternoon at 2:00 PM at East Cooper Cemetery.
