HAMBLEY, Delbert E. Kalamazoo Mr. Hambley passed away Saturday evening, February 24, 2007 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. He was born July 28, 1933 in Allegan County, Michigan, one of six children to George and Ruth Sharp Hambley. Del was a school teacher for 35 years employed by the Portage Public Schools for the last 27 years until his retirement in 1988. He had a passion for history and the lives of the Presidents; enjoyed the Spanish language, and was an avid sports fan. Del was a member of the Portage Free Methodist Church and his faith in Christ was paramount in his life. On December 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to his wife of 54 years, the former Shirley Garn, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Colleen Brian Glass of New York, Michael Teresa Hambley of Kansas, and Sharon Keith Crowell of Kalamazoo; eight grandchildren, Tyler Crystal, Brieanna, Parker, and Sawyer Hambley all of Kansas and Regan, Jacob, Jonathan, and Deidre Crowell all of Kalamazoo; one sister, Doris Cutler of Nebraska; four brothers, George Hambley Jr of Bangor, Harold Barbara Hambley of Pullman, Arthur Judy Hambley of Vicksburg, and Russell Sara Hambley of Holland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Hambley will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Portage Free Methodist Church, 1715 W. Centre Avenue, with Rev. Michael E. Hambley and Rev. Chuck Conners officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Tuesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Portage Free Methodist Church or West Michigan Cancer Center.
