Dayton M. Simmons

SIMMONS, Dayton M. Parchment Mr. Simmons passed away early Friday morning, January 5, 2007 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1911 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Albert and Nellie Westfall Simmons. Dayton co-owned and operated Kalacraft Inc. He was a member of Parchment United Methodist Church, F. & A. M. Kalamazoo-Anchor Lodge #22, former member and past president of Kalamazoo Valley Craftsman Club, and Elk Lodge. In his spare time, he was an avid hunter and fisherman; but most of all, Dayton enjoyed spending time with his family. On January 26, 1935, he was united in marriage to Edith Cripe in Goshen, IN, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Norma friend Glenn Simmons of Parchment and Donald Nancy Simmons of Richland; four grandchildren, William Debbie Schmidt, Jeannine Schmidt, Dan Julie Simmons, and Jeff Sherri Simmons all of the Kalamazoo area; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, and one brother, Donald Simmons. Funeral services for Mr. Simmons will be at 10:00 AM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, with Rev. Dan Minor officiating. Interment will follow in West Cooper Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Parchment United Methodist Church.
