Kalamazoo David Allen Wohlfert, 54, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 14, 2012 after a courageous and inspirational battle against cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Dave was born August 30, 1957 in Lansing, MI to Martha Reeve Grier and Leon Wohlfert. He grew up in South Haven, MI, graduated from South Haven High School and Southwestern Michigan Community College in Dowagiac, MI. After marrying his high school sweetheart Holly on October 15, 1977, he moved to Kalamazoo, where he had a long career as an auto-mechanic. Over the years he owned two auto repair shops and most recently was part-owner/general manager of Airport Auto Service Portage, MI. Dave had many passions in life; foremost was his relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family, golfing, bowling, singing and ringing with his church choirs, and working with Habitat for Humanity. Dave was a good man and could always be counted on to have an infectious smile on his face and a wonderfully positive attitude. Dave is survived by a loving wife and two daughters, "his girls," Holly Adkin Wohlfert and Abby Wohlfert of Kalamazoo, and Amy Rice of Fayetteville, NC; father Leon Wohlfert and sister Jeanne Alan Lyon of South Haven, MI; sister JoLynn Wohlfert of Lake Ann, MI; step-father, David Grier and step-sister, Kathy Walt Sicard of South Haven, MI; step-sisters, Judy Gregg Jones of Kalamazoo and Elizabeth Larry Hill of Louisville, OH; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother Martha Reeve Grier and brother Richard Wohlfert. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 504 South Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI. Immediately following the service, there will be refreshments and a time of visitation and fellowship with the family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church - worship and music, Habitat for Humanity, or a charity of one's choice.
