In Memoriam: David Bryan Stewart April 20, 1964 – January 3, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Bryan Stewart, who left us on January 3, 2025. David was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on April 20, 1964, to Mary Hackley-Mitchell and Vernon Stewart. He had an enormous personality and an infectious zest for life that impacted all who knew him. He will forever be remembered for his boundless spirit, charisma, and remarkable ability to make lasting memories with nearly anyone.

David spent his early years between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, eventually graduating from Battle Creek Central High School. During his time at Battle Creek Central, he was well-liked and excelled as an athlete, showcasing his talent in basketball, football, and swimming. His electric personality and accomplishments earned him the honor of being crowned Homecoming King—a fitting recognition of his popularity and leadership.

After high school, David worked alongside his older brother, Steve Jones, at Jedd Knapper, an upscale men’s clothing store, and Mr. President’s Bar and Lounge in Kalamazoo, MI. These experiences not only refined his sharp sense of style but also highlighted his natural ability to connect with people.

Over the years, David called many places home, leaving his mark wherever he went. His time living and working under the vibrant neon lights of Las Vegas greatly influenced his fast-paced, bold, and larger-than-life energy—traits that endeared him to all who knew him. David also spent time in California, where he pursued new opportunities. However, the most significant blessing of this chapter in his life was the arrival of his son, Christopher Bryan Stewart, a gift he cherished above all else.

David's life took an extraordinary turn in 2007 when he met his beloved wife, Marquerite Stewart, whom he later married in 2012. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey, creating lasting memories through travel, visits with loved ones, and celebrating the finer things in life. Their love was evident to all who knew them and will remain a testament to the bond they shared.

A true adventurer at heart, David relished every opportunity to explore the world around him. Whether it was driving with his loyal dog, Pinky, by his side, boating on a lake, taking motorcycle rides, or spending quality time with family and friends, he lived with a deep appreciation for the thrill of life and the "beautiful people," as he would often say.

David was preceded in death by his father Vernon Stewart and stepfather Alonzo Mitchell. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marquerite Stewart; devoted mother, Mary Mitchell; son, Christopher Bryan Stewart; granddaughter, Ta’jenais Banks; brothers Steve Jones, Mark Stewart, and Vincent Stewart; sisters Mary Kim Rice and Becky Stewart; sister-in-law Linda Sims; as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends and loved ones.

David's legacy is one of love and laughter. Above all else, he treasured his family. David’s memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be dearly missed.
