David L. Hageman, age 77, passed away February 17, 2019 at Borgess Gardens in Kalamazoo, MI. Dave was born June 1, 1941 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Herman and Esther (Belden) Hageman. He was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Plainwell High School in 1959. In his senior year of high school, he began working for KVP in Parchment and continued until he began his active duty service during the Vietnam War Era from 1964-66 in the U.S. Army. In 1966, following his active duty service he began his employment for the next 33 years with the General Motors Stamping Plant in Comstock where he was a machine repairman until his retirement in 1999.

Dave was a longtime active member and volunteer at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Portage since 1974, where he had been active in St. Andrew's men's group. He was also a member of the Plainwell American Legion Post; the UAW #488 and the General Motors Retiree's Group. Dave was an avid sports enthusiast. In his early years, he began playing football and basketball in high school; and began his enjoyment of all types and levels of car racing. Dave loved participating in bowling, playing church league softball and organized adult basketball leagues. This legacy of sports sparked a lifetime of following legends of celebrated players and coaches at all levels of sporting events. Dave and Jan were avid bicyclists for many years, and over the years they had bicycled over 126,000 miles in Michigan, many states and even in Canada. They were members of the League of American Bicyclists and League of Michigan Bicyclists.

On May 4, 1968, he was united in marriage to Janis E. (Jefferson) Hageman in Allegan, MI. Surviving are his wife of 50 years Jan Hageman; their children Aimee Hageman and Bryan Hageman; a grandson Jack Hageman; a brother Dennis (Kathy) Hageman; in-laws Rika Hageman, Wanda Hageman, Marcia Hageman, Kaye (John) Hausser; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers Virgil, James and Delbert Hageman and by several cousins.

In accordance with Dave's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30am and memorial service will begin 11:30am on Monday, May 6th at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Portage. Burial with full military honors will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 2:30pm on Monday, May 6th.
