Winona, MN Passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010 in Winona, MN. David was born May 14, 1958 in Kalamazoo, the son of Kenneth and Evelyn De Hollander Essar. He was a Boy Scout and had earned his Eagle Scout rank, the Order of the Arrow, his God and Country Award and in his junior year of high school, became a member of the National Honor Society. David served one year with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He graduated from Gull Lake High School in 1976, from Ferris State College in 1981 with a Masters in Pharmacy and from the University of Iowa in 1989 with a Doctorate in Microbiology. David was awarded the "Professor of the Year" in 1998. This honor was decided by the students voting for their favorite professor at Winona State University. On July 20, 2002, David married Andrea Foss, who survives, Also surviving are a son, Mitchell, daughter, Hannah, his parents, Kenneth and Evelyn Essar, a sister, Cathy J. Essar, nephew Robert Roessler and a niece, Kelsey Roessler. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Winona State University Foundation, C/O the Dr. David W.
