David Edward Smith

David Edward Smith passed away after a long struggle with a variety of health issues.

Although a long-time resident of Detroit, Dave loved the outdoors. His work as a roofer probably kept him close to the city and the concrete but his heart and spirit took flight in nature and within natural spaces. His tomato plants that lined the walk to his apartment spoke of his respect for the natural world and his sensitivity to its wonders. He loved the pathways and trails of Portage and appreciated the city's green spaces and natural wonder.

Dave loved to laugh, talk to people, and watch sports and movies. He was a Vietnam veteran, lifetime Red Wings fan, beloved grandfather, grateful resident of Portage Pines, and was proud of the fact that he never voted. Dave could be a grump, stubborn, overly competitive and may, or may not, have a had few but everyone that met him always remembered him. He made an impression and he cared. May he finally find peace. He will be missed.
