David Dean Dyksterhouse, age 87, died at his home in Kalamazoo after a short illness on May 11, 2023. David was born in Kalamazoo on April 26, 1936, to Walter and Agnes (Abrahams) Dyksterhouse. After a stint in the Army from 1959-60, he met Karen Patricia Hammond; they were married on October 13, 1963. Their children, Kelly Lynne and Marc David, were born in 1965 and 1968, respectively. David worked at IBM for 25 years before retiring in 1987 at the age of 50. Following his retirement, most of his time was spent golfing and taking care of his grandchildren. David and Karen wintered in Panama City Beach, Florida, in their fifth wheel and summered at the family cottage on Pine Lake.
David is survived by his wife, Karen (Hammond) Dyksterhouse; his two children: Kelly (Martin) Schultz and Marc (Traci) Dyksterhouse; his four grandsons: Alec Schultz, Jake Elliott, Nathan Schultz, and Aiden Dyksterhouse; and his two brothers John (Jan) Dyksterhouse and Gene Dyksterhouse. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Janice Dyksterhouse.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. – noon on Tuesday, May 16, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with a service at noon and reception to follow.
