BRUSH, Darrell Z. Schoolcraft Passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010. Darrell was born November 5, 1924 in Kalamazoo, a son of Melvin and Viola Brush and was a lifelong resident of the area. He served his country during WW II in the United States Navy as a corpsman, and was assigned to the Pacific Theatre near Japan and Okinawa. When he returned from the service, he worked for the US Post Office as a letter carrier for 43 years. He also owned and operated The Schoolcraft Soda Fountain for 14 years. Darrell coached Little League Baseball and had the joy to coach his own son. He served on the Schoolcraft Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was instrumental in developing the Schoolcraft Ambulance Service. After he retired, he served as a bus driver for the Schoolcraft Schools and the Croyden Avenue school. In his spare time, he loved to do woodworking, golfing and gardening. At one time, Darrell enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, #118 of Schoolcraft. He accepted Jesus and made Him #1 in his life. He is survived by his wife, Esther; his children, Stuart Shelley Ann WhitneyBrush, Ruth Anne Marable, Jillonne Robert Markus and Brenda Gordon Brodhagen; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Marable; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ardis Brush; two sons, Johnathan Marable and Steven Marable; and a brother, Maylord Brush. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with Rev. Fred Betcher and Darrell's granddaughter, Erin Fitzgerald, officiating. Interment will take place in Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Schoolcraft Assembly of God, 13000 N. US -131, Schoolcraft, MI.
