Kalamazoo, MI Passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving family, November 1st after a courageous battle against cancer. Darlene's sunrise was December 20, 1944 in Gilmer, Texas to the late Ellis and Edna Bell Jensen, the oldest daughter of 5 siblings. Darlene graduated from U.S. Grant H.S. in Oklahoma City, where she married Richard Ward, moved to Kalamazoo and there raised two daughters. Darlene worked for the City of Kalamazoo in public safety where she met and married Ken Sliss. After Ken's death, she was united in marriage to Jack Rose. She retired after 19 years of service to the city in 2000. In 2001, Darlene moved to Baldwin, MI to a retirement cabin on Little Star Lake. There she became an active member in the Duane Dewey Amvets Post #1988 and VFW Peacock Post #5315. She volunteered time with special needs adults the St. Anne Senior Center. Darlene loved to sing and was known for her beautiful voice. As a teenager she sang on TV in Oklahoma City. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Ken Sliss and Jack Rose, a brother David Jensen and Richard Ward. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia McNutt, Sonya Tim Logsden and her little buddy Shane McNutt. Her brothers Gordon Irene Jensen, Scott Debbie Jensen and sister Ann Van Fansler, mother-in-law, Floydene Epperly, Jack Rose II, Cathy Randy Spinelli, Jean Rose, and Dennis Rose, 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Darlene was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and wife, and was well loved for her generous and caring nature. In her sunset, the Lord is making room for a heaven bound angel. Graveside services will be held 1:30 Tuesday in Fort Custer National Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Great Lakes Burn Camp or Southern Care Hospice Program.
