Formerly of Gobles Passed away on June 10, 2011 at her residence. Darlene was born February 2, 1935 in Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter of John and Amy Youngblood Foster and was raised in Kalamazoo. She was united in marriage to Stanley Axe with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his death in 2002. They moved to California due to a job transfer and returned to the Kalamazoo area where they lived in Gobles. She later resided with her daughter in Cooper Township. Darlene was employed as a day care provider and she and Stan also served as foster care parents for over 40 years. Darlene was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister Emily Marie Foster. Surviving are 5 children, Carol Michael Wedlake and Linda Fred Campbell, all of Kalamazoo, Stanley Susan Axe of Gobles, Joanne Rodney James of Battle Creek and Connie Kevin Blair of Destin, FL; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Bette William Whitaker of Parchment, Barbara Armintrout of Galesburg and Patricia Kenneth Wall of Otsego; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 o'clock Thursday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will begin one hour before the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions in Darlene's memory may be directed to Great Lakes Caring or the American Cancer Society.
