Portage, MI Daniel Henry Hoogerheide, age 72, passed away Friday evening, April 24, 2015 and went to be with his Lord. Dan was born on May 22, 1942 in Kalamazoo, MI the only son of Henry and Geraldine Smith Hoogerheide and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School. In 1960, Dan began working full time at the L. Hoekstra True Value Hardware Store and later became the owner, retiring in 2006. From 1965 to 1974 Dan served as the director for Kalamazoo Youth for Christ. He was a member of Reformed Baptist Church and was involved in its 1977 establishment. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Nick Luteyn. On August 30, 1963 Dan married the former Dianna K. Luteyn who survives. Also surviving are three children, Pamela Gregory Schrock of Kalamazoo, Steven Stacey Hoogerheide of Bolingbrook, IL and David Angelea Hoogerheide of LaPlata, MD; eight grandchildren, David and Kathryn Schrock, Caleb, Bethany and Analeigh Hoogerheide and Ethan, Noah and Schuyler Hoogerheide; a sister Kathryn Sam Workman of Rosemont, MN; mother-in-law, Margaret Luteyn of Kalamazoo; a brother-in-law, James Luteyn of Beaver Island; one niece and three nephews. Visitation will be held 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Wednesday, April 29th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Services will be held 2:00pm Thursday, April 30th at Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Road, with Pastor Allan Kenitz officiating. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 1:00pm and again following the service. Private burial services will be held in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Reformed Baptist Church, Tree of Life School or Kairos Dwelling.
