HARRISON, Mr. Dan M.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Died Monday afternoon February 18, 2013 at his residence. Dan was born December 6, 1915 in Omaha, Nebraska, a son of Benjamin and Estella Stephens Harrison. Dan was a graduate of Omaha Central High School and graduated from Iowa State University with a chemical engineering degree. He had a successful forty-three year career as a manufacturing executive at Kellogg Company in Omaha and Battle Creek, as well as serving as a Board Member from 1964 to 1980. Dan had been a Kalamazoo resident since 1981, and lived in Battle Creek from 1947 through 1980. He was also an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo and a former member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. Dan was a member of the Boy Scouts where he earned the designation as an Eagle Scout. He later served as Council President. He was Chairman of the United Way and Red Cross, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. On September 3, 1937, he was united in marriage to Jane L. Harrison who preceded him in death in 2002. He was also preceded by his sister, Martha; and his stepmother, Ruth Harrison. Dan is survived by his two children, Stephanie David Spina of Wayland, MA, and Dan Josephine Harrison, Jr. of Auburn, MI; five grandchildren, Kate and Alexander Spina, and Sarah Ruben Anguiano, Scott Jill, and David Lyndsay Harrison; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Joan Bartlett of Omaha, NE; and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held 1 o'clock Saturday, April 6th at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1515 Helen St. with the Reverends Gerald and Janet Duggins officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes, or the S.W. Michigan Council of Boy Scouts.
