Dallas Lynn "Yogi" Yowler

Dallas “Yogi” Yowler, born October 5, 1946, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Yowler; his son, Skipp Yowler; his daughter-in-law, Jill (Van Oost) Yowler; his grandchildren, Jacob Yowler and Natalie (Nathan Salinas) Yowler; and many nieces and nephews. He was a resident of Kalamazoo/Portage for his entire life and had many friends in the area. He retired from Flowserve in 2003.

Dallas was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Charles Yowler and Arlene (Charkowski) Yowler. He grew to love baseball as a youth and became a catcher in the local youth league, earning himself the nickname “Yogi”. He graduated from Loy Norrix High School in 1965. Shortly after graduating, he was drafted into the United States Army and deployed to Vietnam. When he returned, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Slater, whom he married on March 14, 1970. They were blessed with a son, Skipp, on December 11, 1974. On June 3, 2000, Skipp married Jill, and the two blessed Yogi with two grandchildren, Jacob and Natalie.

Yogi loved to bowl and golf, and he was an avid fan of the Lions and Tigers. He was a life member of the VFW 827 and, for a time, served as commander. After retirement, Yogi loved to travel and would take any opportunity to take a cruise or a trip to Texas to see family. Yogi was most passionate about watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a fixture on the bleachers for Martin Athletics until Natalie graduated in 2021.

Yogi was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Arlene Yowler, and his father- and mother-in-law, Steven and Dorothy Slater.

Yogi will be honored with a celebration of life service on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 S 9^th St, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009, and will be laid to rest with military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
