BALCH, Dale L.
Of Portage Passed away Monday afternoon, March 7, 2011. Dale was born May 28, 1916 in Portage, MI the son of Walter and Jennie LaRoy Balch and was a 3rd Generation Kalamazoo resident. He was a veteran serving in the U.S Army Air Corps during World War II. Prior to his retirement he was employed for 27 years with Durametallic now Flowserve. Dale was an avid bowler; and enjoyed gardening, and mowing lawns for people that needed help until he was 92 years old. Dale enjoyed meeting people, and made friends wherever he went around town. On May 16, 1941 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Evon Burdette, who preceded him in death on October 5, 1990. He was also preceded in death by a brother and 3 sisters, Perc, Anna, Nellie, and Josephine. He is survived by his 2 children, Larry Balch, and Karen Bailey; grandchildren, Stacy and Michael Cross; a great-grand-daughter, Olivia Evon; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 o'clock Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre with Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Thursday from 6-8pm and also one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association. www.langelands.com
