VAN ANTWERP, Dale
Portage, Michigan Passed away peacefully at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Dale was born May 26, 1917 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Abraham and Dora Dykers VanAntwerp. He served his country in the U.S. Army with the 628th Tank Destroyer Battalion during World War II. On August 20, 1949, Dale and Leona B. Bauer were married in Richville, MI. Dale worked for Purity Cylinder Gases, Inc. for 34 years, retiring as District Manager. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as president of the Congregation for 4 years, taught Sunday School and served in many other capacities, including Zion's first Boy Scout Leader. During his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at Zion, Ministry with Community, the American Red Cross and ministering to shut-ins and traveling. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife of 58 years, Leona; a daughter Melinda A. VanAntwerp of Kalamazoo. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother Leonard and sister Ruth. Services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson Blvd. with the Rev. Timothy Seeber and Rev. Larry Brelje officiating. Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Dale's memory be made to Zion Lutheran Church Library, Ministry with Community or Kairos Dwelling.
