Cynthia Kay (Kamminga) Viel

Cynthia "Cyndee" K. Viel, age 73 of Kalamazoo, went to Heaven on September 22, 2021. She was born April 29, 1948, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Chris and Esther (Temple) Kamminga. Cyndee was a 1966 graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School. In 8th grade, Cyndee began dating Rick Viel and they were married August 24, 1968, at Stetson Chapel. Over the years, Cyndee worked as a copywrite at an advertising agency and as a secretary at North Christian School. She was the activity director at Ridgeview Nursing Home and later Friendship Village. Cyndee was the happiest when she was working with kids. She served as the Children's Ministry Director at her church, Third Christian Reformed. She also poured her heart into her role as the Kid's Hope Director where she established a mentorship program with Winchell School. For this work, she was honored with a plaque hanging in the school.

Her family includes her husband, Rick Viel; her children: Matt (Jen) Viel and Mindy (Rob) Sutton; her grandchildren: James Viel, Seth Viel, Elana Sutton, Jaiden Sutton, and Liam Sutton; her sisters, Sandy (Carl) Gronsman and Kris Ligman; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021, at 10:00 AM, at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008. Cyndee wanted the final words of this obituary to say "She loved Jesus and Jesus loved her". And anyone who knew her, would wholeheartedly agree.
