Cynthia Beth Bergeon passed away February 8, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family, after losing her battle to ALS. Cindy was born January 27, 1954, in Rome GA, the daughter of Wayne and Bettye Crawford. She graduated from Mattawan High school in 1972 where she met her husband of 46 years, Richard Bergeon. After High school Cindy attended McConnell Airline School in Minneapolis, MN. She and Richard were married Oct 2, 1976, and had two children. She later worked as a cashier, court clerk, office manager and administrative assistant at Western Michigan University. During her time at WMU Cindy took great pride in her role as the Native American Student Advisor. She devoted much of her life to learning and educating others about Native culture and traditions. She was an active member in the Native American Community and was known for her volunteer work and involvement in many Native organizations. Cindy loved to attend Powwows and make dance regalia and sat on several Powwow committees.
Cindy lived a life characterized by love, kindness and generosity. Throughout her life she touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth and infectious smile. She was an exceptional listener and always made those around her feel comfortable and valued. As a grandmother Cindy was known for her unconditional love and unwavering support. She was a source of constant encouragement and inspiration to her grandchildren, and they will forever cherish the memories they shared with her. Cindy was also a devoted mother and spouse and always put their needs before her own. Her love of her family was a strong testament to her strong character and selflessness.
She loved life and wanted to take advantage of everything it had to offer. In her free time Cindy enjoyed riding her motorcycle alongside her husband, sewing, camping, traveling, shopping, and Biggby coffee. She would never turn down a chance to go out on her pontoon boat or a trip to a casino. She was a leader in her family and enjoyed hosting holidays, family functions and reunions. Her door was always open, and she made sure no one ever left hungry. She was a friend to everyone she met and enjoyed surrounding herself with those she loved. She cherished her late-night conversations with her best friend Linda Cypret-Kilbourne and the many laughs and sleepovers she shared with her dear friend and caregiver Peggy Aldred. Cindy will be deeply missed by her friends and family; her memory will live on through the lives of those she touched and the legacy she leaves behind.
