Craig Robin Helmic

Craig Robin Helmic passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 7th, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Originally from Lansing, Michigan, Craig moved to Kalamazoo after getting married in 1971. After earning a Bachelor's degree at Western Michigan University, Craig and Nancy moved to Portage, where they raised their two children.

Craig enjoyed going to any professional baseball game. After Tiger’s Stadium and Comerica Park, Wrigley Field was his favorite professional baseball park. Craig was a lifelong Detroit Lions fan, as well as an avid reader of history books about the Civil War and Clive Cussler novels.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Marguerite Helmic. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy; his two children, Patrick (Noel) Helmic and Katherine (Eric) Smith; his two brothers, Mike (Sherry) Helmic and Jim (Grace) Helmic; five grandchildren, as well as seven nieces and nephews.
