"Connie"
Of Kalamazoo Connie passed away Saturday morning, February 12, 2011 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born March 1, 1947 in Bloomington, IN, the daughter of Percy and Anna Lee Bastin Sluss. Connie was employed by Borgess Medical Center as an RN on the Cardiac Floor for 30 years until her retirement last year in 2010. She was an avid fan of Kalamazoo K-Wings, UChugg Softball, and Detroit Red Wings. She loved life, was full of joy and was devoted to her family and friends. Surviving are her four children, David Jr. Donna Smith of Chandler, AZ, Christopher Smith of Kalamazoo, Damon Jennifer Smith of Kalamazoo, and Kara Smith of Kalamazoo; nine grandchildren, Megan Pore, Jessalin Smith, Erin Stein, Emily Jessie Garcia, Jennifer Elizabeth Smith, Adreina Smith, Brandon Smith, Rhayna Smith and Billy Smith; one great-grandson, Nathan Garcia; two granddogs, Misty and Tinkerbell; one brother, Charles "Bob" Sluss of Washington, IN; one uncle, Park Sophie Wilbur of Bloomington, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Ronald Sluss; and one sister, Dorothea Bowen. Funeral services for Connie will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Loaves and Fishes or West Michigan Cancer Center.
