Mumford, Clyde Bartlett
of Mattawan, Michigan Passed away Monday, August 27, 2012 at Rose Arbor Hospice. Age 83 years. Clyde was born February 6, 1929, the son of the late Fred C. and Rose H. Hazen Mumford. Clyde graduated from Mattawan High School in 1948, where he excelled in basketball, football, baseball and track. He was married to Doris Taft Mumford on July 30, 1948; she survives him. He coached with Texas Township Little League and was an avid sports fan, especially of Michigan State University. He worked as a Sheet Metal Mechanic for Upjohn for 34 ½ years. While at Upjohn he served with the Emergency Squad. He retired from Upjohn as Supervisor of the Sheet Metal Shop. Clyde volunteered for the Texas Township Fire Department. He was a member of Oakland Drive Christian Church. Clyde loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife are two children, Clyde C. Mumford of Paw Paw and Peggy Mumford of Paw Paw; two grandchildren, Nichol Chris Oliver of Hamilton and Kyle Tamara Mumford of Mattawan; four great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Haidyn, Paityn and Kaidence; one brother, Arthur Ethel Mumford of Kalamazoo; one sister, Doris Sheldon Weed of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. Clyde was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Esther, Homer, Beth, Betty Jane, Pluma, Max, Fred, Donna, Frank "Jim" and Lawrence. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Oakland Drive Christian Church, 7331 Oakland Drive. Michael O'Berski will officiate. Memorials may be made to Oakland Drive Christian Church or The Clyde B. Mumford Athletic Memorial Fund, please make checks payable to Mattawan Consolidated Schools.
