AKKER, Mr. Clifford J., Sr.
Kalamazoo, MI Passed away Sunday afternoon January 10, 2010. Clifford was born December 6, 1926 in Morrison, Illinois a son of Harry and Mary Wilkins Akker. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Marines. Clifford was employed with the Local Bricklayers Union 6-MI for 50 years before retiring. Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Virginia L. Akker on June 29, 2008; a daughter, Sally Akker as a child; a son-in-law, Gary Jordan; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by 5 children, Joyanne Jordan of Comstock, Susan Michael Nichols of Kalamazoo, Judith Steven Ross of Grand Rapids, Clifford Akker Jr. of Detroit, and Teresa Joe Hynes of Paw Paw; daughter-in-law, Brenda Akker of NC; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephew, and cousins. Graveside services will be held 12 Noon Friday in Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kairos Dwelling. Arrangements were made with the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S.
