PHELPS, Claude Harvey, Jr.
Kalamazoo Passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008. Claude was born February 22, 1922 in Battle Creek, the son of Claude Harvey, Sr., and Marie Kitzmiller Phelps and had lived in Kalamazoo for many years. He was employed by Kalamazoo Stamping and Die for approximately 20 years and then by General Motors for 17 years as a tool and die maker. Claude was a member of the Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene. On May 17, 1941, he married Mildred Adelle Balch and she preceded him in death on May 6, 1999. He was also preceded by his parents and a half-brother, Reginald Hills. Surviving are his children, Ronald Jean Phelps of Plainwell, Jean Leslie Jones of Warren and Joan Richard Wolfe of Fremont, IN; 7 grandchildren, Ronald Phelps, Jr, Matthew Jones, Aaron Jones, Elizabeth Jones, Laura Yoder, Kenneth Wolfe and Kevin Wolfe; great grandchildren, Megan Cortez, Faith Amato, Madison Yoder and Gavin Yoder; and a great-great-granddaughter, Remy Cortez. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Interment will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Memorials may be given to First Church of the Nazarene or Borgess VNA Hospice.
