SCHROCK, Claudia Sue Heersma Of Kalamazoo Died surrounded by family and friends late Wednesday at Bronson Hospital after being admitted last week with a serious illness. Born April 5, 1943, in Chicago to Ellen Marie Westerveld and Dr. H. Sidney Heersma, Claudia had grown up in Kalamazoo and graduated from University High School. She also graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and attended Western Michigan. Married in 1964 to Michael Schrock, Claudia lived in upstate New York from 1965 until 2002. Beginning in school, and throughout her life, Claudia loved and practiced the graphic arts, particularly painting. She also had an avid interest in local and regional histories. Claudia was a member of the Ladies Library Association and the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, where she loved taking classes since returning to Kalamazoo. She was a member of Bethany Reformed Church, where she had served as a deacon. She also supported many causes and organizations. She was an important part of the lives of all she met, but her greatest love was her family, more and more as it grew over the years. Claudia is survived by her father of Kalamazoo; her younger brother, Jim Heersma of Bloomington, IN; her former husband of Wilton, NY and New Port Richey, FL; daughters, Elizabeth Ellen Kyle Farry of Wilton, NY, Frances Claire Clifford Traisman of Seattle, WA, Cynthia Lynne Michael Seeley of Glens Falls, NY, Abigail Leigh Schrock of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Colin and Eben Farry and Quinn, Leo, Ellis and Nora Traisman; and lifetime friend Cynthia Lewis of Kalamazoo. Friends are invited to join family for a celebration of her life at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, 314 South Park Street, Kalamazoo, from 2 to 4 PM, Sunday, February 1. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends and acquaintances contribute, as they are able, in Claudia's memory to: the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Scholarship Fund, Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes or the charity of one's choice.
