ROOK, Clarence G., Jr.
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Died January 8, 2009 at his residence. Clarence was born March 15, 1926 in Portland, IN, the son of Clarence and Agnes Stouder Rook and had lived in Kalamazoo since 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with basic training at Ft. Riley, KS and Military Police School at Kanchippara, India. He served with the Military Police at the 48th Evacuation Hospital and the 18th General Hospital at Myitkyina, Burma. Clarence was employed for 29 years at Georgia Pacific Paper Company, where he retired in 1996. He was a member of the Comstock V.F.W. Post #6252 and the Eagles Lodge. Clarence was an avid golfer and sportsman. On June 26, 1992 he was united in marriage to Sandra Short, who survives. Also surviving are 10 children, LeRoy and Jeri Staudinger of Plainwell, Linda and Jeff Green of Portage, Larry and Carol Rook of Plainwell, Robert and Anne Rook of Kalamazoo, Sandy and Mike Staudinger of Addison, Betty and Ron Cooper of Kalamazoo, John and Bev Rook of Kalamazoo, Cathy and Steve Hickok of Mattawan, Sherry and Jeff Tennis of Mattawan, and Janet Rook of Kalamazoo; step-children, Robert and Laurie Bessler of Kalamazoo and Michael and Christina Bessler of Washington; 27 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Herman and Dixie Rook of Indiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Douglas Rook, granddaughter, Sheela Staudinger and his brothers, Gaynell and Marvin Rook. A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held Monday January 12, 2009 at 11:00 am at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Please gather in the funeral cortege assembly area at 10:45 am.
