ROUSE, Clara
age 98 of Kalamazoo Clara passed away Tuesday morning, January 24, 2012 at her home. She was born November 12, 1913 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Joseph and Emma Bigalke Stohrer. Clara dropped out of school in the 8th grade to go to work. She worked for Sutherland Paper Co. for 19 years in the Art Department. She completed her G.E.D. and started nursing school at age 47. Clara worked as a L.P.N. at Borgess Hospital, Merrill Residence, and private duty until her retirement at age 70. She loved spending time at her cabin near Traverse City. She was a great lover of nature and enjoyed writing in her log about sightings of animals and plants while at her cabin and her home in the woods. Preceding her in death are her husband, Howard "Red" Rouse in 1967; two sisters, Dorothy Schell and Annamae McLeod; and two brothers, Robert and Richard Stohrer. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Monty Miller of Kalamazoo and one grandson, Benjamin Miller. Private graveside services were held in Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo.
