Of Fort Lauderdale, FL Clara passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She was born December 10, 1917, in Vicksburg, Michigan, the daughter of John and Maude Huntington Canavan. Clara was a resident of this area until moving to Florida in 1973. On November 22, 1936, she was united in marriage to Marine "Sub" Rooy, who preceded her in death on December 26, 1987. She was also preceded by her parents, all of her siblings and her companion of 17 years, Phil Mondello. Surviving are her son, Dennis Eileen Rooy of Tamarac, FL; her daughter, Donna Rooy of Detroit; 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Clara enjoyed bowling, golf, shuffleboard, card games and visiting the casino occasionally. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:00-11:00 AM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. where a service to celebrate her life will begin at 11:00 AM Monday. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
