HOEBEKE, Christina V.
Of Kalamazoo Went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, April 13, 2010. Christina was born October 5, 1929 in Sully, IA, a daughter of Cornelius and Durkie Rolffs VanSoelen and had lived in Kalamazoo for the past 52 years. She attended Central College in Pella, IA and graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids with a teaching degree. Christina taught elementary school at Sully Christian School in Sully, IA, Grand Rapids Christian Schools and North Christian School in Kalamazoo. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Christina was a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church and served as leader for the Bible Study Fellowship for numerous years. She was involved with Crossroads Bible Institute and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 35 years. On July 22, 1960, she was married in Sully, IA to John A. Hoebeke, who survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Lori Bill Gove of Kalamazoo, Sally Chris Clark of Caledonia and Marcia Lawrence of Schoolcraft; 8 grandchildren, Lindsay and Ryan Gove, Lauren, Ethan and Austin Clark, Monica, Jonathan and Megan Lawrence; 3 sisters and 2 brothers, Cornelia Bernard Arkema of Sully, IA, Ralph Bernice VanSoelen of Newton, IA, Marie Brandhof of Prairie City, IA, Joanne Marvin Sjaardema of Denver, CO and Donald Pat VanSoelen of Council Bluffs, IA; sisters-in-law, Margean Powers of Kalamazoo, Henrietta VanSoelen of Denver, CO and Millie VanSoelen of Sully, IA; many nieces and nephews. Christina was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister, Peter, Henry and Clarence VanSoelen and Dorothy Arkema. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday at the Grace Christian Reformed Church, 1724 Whites Rd. with the Rev. Greg Timmer, Rev. Dr. Harry Arnold and Rev. Steve VanderMolen officiating. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Visitation will be held today Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Memorial contributions in Christina's memory may be made to Park Village Pines or Kalamazoo Christian Schools Association.
