Chester "Bill" Campbell

CAMPBELL, Chester ?Bill? Portage Passed away on September 12, 2007 at his residence. Bill was born July 26, 1935 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Edwin and Doris Grace Campbell and was a lifelong Kalamazoo resident. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School, Class of 1953 and was employed for 13 years at the Panelyte Company. He served from 1952 ? 1960 in the U.S. Navy; 1955 -57 as active duty and the other as U.S. Naval Reserve. Bill was then employed for 27 years at General Motors until his retirement in 1993. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed Elk hunting in Colorado. Bill also enjoyed traveling, camping and motorcycling all over the United States with his family. On November 16, 1957, he was married to Sharon Deming, his best friend and beloved wife for over 50 years, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter Linda Dirk Heerlyn and a son William Campbell, all of Mattawan and by 2 granddaughters, who were raised as his own daughters, Amy Ira Hosner of Kalamazoo and Mindy Mark Bonhomme of Portage; a brother Edwin Linda Campbell and a sister Sharon Westafer, all of Portage; a sister-in-law Sally Campbell of Oshtemo; several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by a brother Robert Campbell and by a brother-in-law Ron Westafer. He will be remembered by all as a loving husband, caring father and loyal friend. Services will be held at 11:00 o?clock Monday at the Oakland Drive Christian Church, 7331 Oakland Dr. with Minister Michael O?Berski officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. Interment with military honors in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family on Sunday from 2-5 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Memorial contributions in Bill?s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice.
