WILLIAMS, Charles A. Sr.
Of Portage Passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012. Charles was born April 7, 1934 in Kalamazoo the son of the late Bernard and Louise Gayhide Williams. Prior to his retirement he worked for many years as a union carpenter. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics; enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and off road racing. On December 16, 1955 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Sallie Vance, who preceded him in death on June 24, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Love. Surviving are his children, Chuck Jr. Bonnie Williams, Laura Williams, Ken Williams, JoDee Charles Cook; 10 grandchildren, Andy, Danielle, Emily, Jessica, Martin, Amanda, Joshua, Dustin, Arica, and Aaron; 5 great-grandchildren, Jenna, Bailey, Makyla, Alexander, and Gracie; brother and sister, Bernard Williams, Margaret Shetterly; and several nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Charles life will be held at 11:00am Wednesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family on Monday from 6-8pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Portage Chapel.
