WALTER, Charles H. Jr. "Chuck"
of Grand Rapids, Michigan
formerly of Portage, Michigan Chuck, 84, passed away peacefully August 20, 2012, with family by his side. Chuck was born August 23, 1927 to Charles Henry and Anna Mae Wilhelm Walter. After high school, Chuck went into the 20th Air Force. When he was a civilian again he attended Purdue University and earned his BS in Civil Engineering and his MS in Industrial Management, he was also a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Chuck spent his working years in the pre-stressed concrete industry. He worked for the same company for 33 years. The company name changed several different times, as owners changed. After retiring, Chuck was a consultant to various pre-stressed concrete companies. Chuck was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Portage for many years and held several offices during that time. He also spent much of his life volunteering with many different organizations, always trying to help others. Chuck was an avid golfer and spent time on many different courses all over the country. Chuck's faith and his family were the most important part of his life. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Janice Tolle Walter; his sister, Dorothy Jean Walter Crawford of Springfield, Ohio; his sons-in-law and daughters: Randy & Deborah Walter Caris of Wyoming, MI, Branko & Rebecca Walter Markovic of Miami, FL; his grandchildren, Kayleen Hudson, Adria and Roko Markovic; his great-granddaughter, Ella Hudson and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1515 Helen Street, Portage, MI with interment in the Memorial Gardens behind the church right after the service.
