During his retirement, Charlie enjoyed fishing, spending time in the woods, by the pool, on the golf course, and next to a deep fryer. He was a beloved father and grandfather, known for his infectious personality and his "ask for forgiveness, not permission" attitude towards life. Charlie was famous for his fish fries, which involved long hours beside a deep fryer, a cold beverage nearby, and non-stop fish tales. These gatherings often brought together entire neighborhoods and hotels, and the fish were caught during his summer fishing trips.
Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Linda, his brothers Leonard Cox and Randall Rhodes, and his sister Janice Alred.
Charlie is survived by his two children, Mark (Beth) Rhodes and Lisa (Dave) Ballmer, as well as his grandchildren: Emily and Cody Rhodes, Carson (Allison), Keagan (Kasey), Maddie Miller, Joe, and Jake Ballmer, and six great-grandchildren: Theo, Josie, Wesley, Ada, Campbell, and Levi Miller.
Charlie is also survived by his three sisters, Joyce McCarty, Linda (Bill) Johnson, and Shirley Allen.
