Kalamazoo, MI Passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo. Mr. Nelson was born January 30, 1917 in Spring Lake, MI a son of Charles D. and Carrie Boyer Nelson and lived in the Kalamazoo area since 1963. He was a graduate of Michigan State College and served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII. He was employed for over thirty years in advertising for American Seating Co. in Grand Rapids and Hammond Machinery in Kalamazoo. A lifetime lover of nature, in retirement, Mr. Nelson enjoyed crafting bonsai trees and plants and mastering stunt-kites. On August 30, 1941, he married Anne Farwell Adams, who preceded him in death on July 4, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents and four sisters. He is survived by his children, Dianne Robert Carpenter of La Porte, IN and Charles C. Nelson of Half Moon Bay, CA; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the KIVA of Friendship Village, 1400 N. Drake Road, on Sunday, January 31, beginning at 1:30 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM.
