HOFFMAN, Charles L.
Kalamazoo Charles L. Hoffman passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the age of 99. He was born February 6, 1914 in Gladwin, MI to Lewis and Nettie Spike Hoffman. He graduated from Kellogg High School at Hickory Corners in 1930 and from Western Michigan University in 1935. He was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area and raised his family in Parchment. Charles began working for the A.M. Todd Company in 1935 and retired in 1979 as production manager. In 1946, he married Marian G. Lucas of Lapeer, MI, who preceded him in death in 1979. He was then united in marriage to Marguerite Harvey Miner Cimock, who preceded him in 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Corvin Pearl Hoffman and a sister, Ruth Robert Bouwens. Charles is survived by his sons, Thomas Karen Hoffman of Littleton, CO. and their children, Alison & Stephanie Hoffman, and Gary Hoffman of Racine, WI and his children, Lucas & Brad Hoffman; his daughter, Lucinda Jamie Gent of Haslett, MI and their children, Edward, Chad and Katie Gent; beloved step-children and their families, Don Sally Maronde, Kurt Kyle Sanders, Bob Betty Miner and Aaron & Andrea of Ft. Wayne, IN. He is also survived by nine very active great-grandchildren. Charles was an active member of the Kalamazoo First Baptist Church, a member of the Downtown Kalamazoo Lion's Club for 60 years and a Life Member of the Kalamazoo Nature Center. He was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross for 10 years and was a driver for the Shepherd Center. His body has been donated to The Michigan State University Medical School for research, as his first wife had done. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo or the American Red Cross. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church, 315 W. Michigan, with Rev. Dr. Mary Beth Sarhatt, officiating. The family would like to thank the Great Lakes Hospice and the staff at the Friendship Village Health Center for the kindness and care given to Charles during his illness. Charles' family would also like to extend their thanks to the residents and staff at Friendship Village for providing Charles and Marguerite a wonderfully supportive and enjoyable community for the 30 years they lived there.
