Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Saturday, January 3, 2009. Charles was born August 1, 1925, in Kalamazoo, the son of Charles and Freda Skinner Fry and has been a lifelong area resident. During WW II, from 1943-46 he served in the U.S. Army and was later a member of VFW Post #827 and American Legion Post #36. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 33 years with The Upjohn Company. Charles was a member of the Yorkville Community Church. He loved to square dance and for 35 years had traveled all over the country square dancing. On December 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former Leona Mann, who preceded him in death on March 2, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William, Leroy and Harold Fry and by two sisters, Marian Evans and Margaret Zuk. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Mark Friend of Kalamazoo; sister-in-law, Edna Fry; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway where a funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday with Pastor Shan Martin officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials in Charles' memory may be directed to Yorkville Community Church.
