DARLING, Charles E., Sr.
Comstock, Michigan Passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008. He was born March 17, 1926 in Lawton, the son of Edward and Hester Irene Darling and was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. During WW II, he served in the United States Army and the Air Force. He was employed by the City of Kalamazoo for 20 years. Charles loved Hank Williams music, flying and talking on the phone. On October 29, 1952, he married Dorothy Burgen, who preceded him in death on October 14, 2003. He was also preceded by his parents and two brothers, Max and Glenn Darling. Surviving Charles are his children, Carolyn Matthew Johnston of Kalamazoo, Gloria Bruce Cleland of Comstock, Chuck Darling of Comstock and Tim fiancée, Sandra Samsons Darling of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brothers, George Darling of Lawton and Frank Darling of Mattawan; 3 sisters, Aline Dudash of Kalamazoo, Elaine Loker of Schoolcraft and Grace Smead of Mattawan; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway with Rev. David Mackaluso officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
