Formerly of Kalamazoo, MI Celia died Thursday, March 29, 2012, at her home. She was born May 10, 1923, in Knishin, Poland, a daughter of Alex and Ida Kuhlick Halpert. She moved to the US with her family when she was 10 years old. Celia graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. On November 21, 1943, Celia married Norman L. Besbris, who preceded her in death on May 21, 2003. Celia was a longtime member and trustee of the Congregation of Moses, past president of Hadassah and active in B'nai B'rith. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing bridge and mah jong, and was a volunteer for Planned Parenthood. Celia moved to California in 2007. Celia will be remembered as a good wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Gerald Levin in 1999 and by two brothers, Ben and Sam Halpert. Surviving are: four children, Randie Levin of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Terry Jeffrey Paule of Pasadena, CA, David Nina Rosenfeld Besbris of Valley Village, CA and Debra Seth Strichartz of Los Altos, CA; six grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Weiner of Grand Rapids, MI; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Besbris of Kalamazoo, Rosalie Halpert of Kalamazoo and Bedonna Ashapa of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 10:00 Monday morning at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street with Rabbi Harvey Spivak, officiating. Burial in Jewish Riverside Cemetery will follow services. Memorials may be directed to the Congregation of Moses/Building Fund, Planned Parenthood or to the charity of one's choice.
