HAMMARSKJOLD, Carolyn Anna Kalamazoo Died August 28, 2007. Carolyn was born on February 29, 1928 in New York, NY, the daughter of Edward and Genevieve Lamar Zimmerman. As a young woman she worked summers at Lake Minnewaska in New York. She earned a B.S. in Education from SUNY New Paltz in 1955 and a M.A. in Library Science from the University of Michigan in 1959. She was a librarian at the U of M Library in Ann Arbor 1959-1962, the Regional Central Library in Enugu, Nigeria 1963-1965, Howard and Howard Attorneys in Kalamazoo 1976-1979, and the Walter F. Morofsky Memorial Library at MSU?s Kellogg Biological Station in Hickory Corners 1978-1998. She was a member of the Western Michigan Chapter of the Special Libraries Association and the American Library Association. Carolyn married Edward Hammarskjold on November 21, 1956 in New York City. She was integral to his business as a practicing architect. Her son Carl Nils Hammarskjold and daughter-in-law Sarah Abbey survive her. Her husband Edward died in 2004; her sister Mary died in 1986, both in Kalamazoo. Cremation has taken place and a small, private memorial has been held.
