Kalamazoo, MI Died Sunday afternoon April 15, 2012. Carol was born March 8, 1945 in Vanceburg, Kentucky a daughter of Estil and Edna Crawford Stamm. She earned a bachelor's degree from Berea College, a master's from Eastern Kentucky University, an MBA from Western Michigan University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident for 30 years and was employed with Western Michigan University from 1981 until her retirement in 2001. Dr. Stamm joined WMU as a faculty member in the Department of Management, where she led in the development of the Business College's required statistics program. She was appointed chair of the Management Department in 1988. She was named executive assistant to the provost in 1992, appointed assistant vice president for academic affairs later that year, and promoted to associate vice president for academic affairs in 1993. In addition, she served as acting admissions director from 1996 to 1997. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Estil in 1996; a half-sister, Melvina Wagner in 1998; and her partner, Dr. Marilyn LaPlante in 2005. She is survived by her mother Edna, 2 sisters, Shirley Stamm of Berea, KY and Stephanie Stamm of Kalamazoo; 2 brothers, James Brenna Stamm of Owingsville, KY and Douglas Vonda Stamm of Frenchburg, KY; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 o'clock on May 13 at the Dalton Center, Western Michigan University. A reception will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
