Carol Jean Shuster

Carol Jean Shuster, 88 of Mattawan, passed away at Story Point of Portage on September 3, 2024. She was born in Kalamazoo on March 24, 1936, to Carlton and Leila (Waters) VanAuken. She married Carl F. Shuster on June 25, 1955, and they were blessed with over 60 years together until Carl’s passing in 2016.

 Carol started her career, after her children were grown, in the late 1970s at Western Michigan University as a clerk in the accounting department and by the time she retired in 1991 she was the manager of the accounts payable office. 

 Carol is survived by her children Carolyn (Steve) Reynolds of Mattawan, Ronald (Michelle) Shuster of Vicksburg, and Ken Shuster of Kalamazoo; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, and daughter Dianne Bell.

 Funeral services for Carol will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Langeland Family Funeral Home Burial and Cremation Services 3926 S. 9th St. Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Friends are invited to spend time with the family from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 12:00 pm followed by a graveside service at Hope Cemetery in Texas Township where Carol will be laid to rest with Carl. Friends are invited to continue celebrating Carol’s life following the graveside service at the Schoolcraft Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3531 11611 Shaver Rd. Schoolcraft, MI 49087.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Carol may be directed to Kalamazoo Humane Society 2272 River St. Kalamazoo, MI 49048.
