Carolann “Carol” M. Schmidt, age 82, entered her eternal home with her Lord and Savior on December 27, 2024, after a battle with dementia, and was surrounded by her loving family. Carol was born December 6, 1942, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Martin and Evelyn (Holloway) Zomer. She was a 1961 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and worked for a number of years as a Secretary in the Research Division of the Upjohn Company.
In 1964, Carol married the love of her life, Phil Schmidt. Together they had a beautiful life, celebrated their 60th anniversary in July 2024, and were blessed with two wonderful children: Karen (Troy) DeKryger and Rebecca (Derek) Scheffers; and her dear grandchildren: Tyler DeKryger, Ethan DeKryger, Emily DeKryger, Isaac Scheffers, Caleb Scheffers, and Faith Scheffers. She is survived by her husband Phil, children, grandchildren, sister-in-law Carol Schmidt of Fort Mills, SC and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to serving her family, Carol served her Lord by leading neighborhood Bible studies with women, teaching Sunday School for 4s and 5s, and participating in the music ministry as a church organist and member of the choir.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents Martin and Evelyn and her brother Norm.
Carol’s family will welcome friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, for a visitation at 10 AM and a memorial service at 11 AM at Calvary Bible Church 855 S. Drake Rd. Kalamazoo. Private interment will be held at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park South.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a contribution in Carol’s name are encouraged to consider Calvary Bible Church or Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
