Kalamazoo Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Carol passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010 in Kalamazoo. She was born June 2, 1932 in Elsie, MI, the daughter of Charles and Ella Purdy Askie and had lived in Kalamazoo for many years, where she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. On May 8, 1954, she married Dr. James McCarthy, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Jill Gary Grishaber, Kathryn McCarthy James Swain, Kelly McCarthy Mark Motz, Janice William Wellman and Mary Kevin Hemenway; 8 grandchildren, Alex & Carrie Grishaber, Alison, Zachary & Miles Swain, Charlie & Sam Wellman and Leslie Hemenway; one great grandchild; a brother, Bud R. Askie; nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Michael Hazard at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St. at 11:00 AM Wednesday. Interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S.
