Carol A. Brooks

March 28, 1944 — January 21, 2007

BROOKS, Carol A. Portage Carol peacefully passed away Sunday morning, January 21, 2007 at her home, following a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born March 28, 1944 in Marshall, the daughter of the late Stewart J. and Elspeth F. Graff Cook; and graduated from Marshall High School in 1962 and Olivet College in 1967. Carol worked as a school teacher for 23 years, most of which were for Gull Lake Public Schools at Ryan Intermediate School, until her retirement in 2004. She loved the outdoors: going to the beach, enjoying the water, and golfing. Most of all she enjoyed her time with her family and friends; especially her grandchildren, who all gave her a reason to fight. On June 18, 1966, Carol was united in marriage to Dennis Brooks in Marshall, who survives. Also surviving are their two children, Melinda Greg Oviatt of Rochester and Matthew Angie Brooks of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Justin, Brianne, Matthew, Logan, and Brady; three brothers, Harold Judith Cook of Minneapolis, MN, Richard Angie Cook of Ypsilanti, and Jerry Karen Cook of Otisville; one sister, Joanne Robert Wank of Marshall; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; and one brother, Kenneth Cook. Memorial services for Carol will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Rev. Jeanne Kucks of Unity Church of Kalamazoo. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Thursday evening at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
