Of Kalamazoo A man of many cultures lived but one life. Carlos Eduardo Carneiro, 29, known to friends as "Los" and relatives as "Du", and to his mother and grandmother,"Carlos Eduardo", died Dec. 30, 2011 in his apartment in Wyoming, Michigan. He was born in Vitoria, Brazil on March 22, 1982 to Rita Carneiro-Jaffari and Samuel Bastos de Souza of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Those who survived Carlos are his Stepfather, Ahmad Jaffari, in Portage, MI, his Grandmother "Vovo" Raymunda Duarte Carneiro, of Vitoria, Brazil, a Brother, Daniel Jaffari, in Portage, MI, his Aunt "Tia"Stella Carneiro Lambert, his cousins William Carneiro-Lambert and Tommy Carneiro-Lambert in Kalamazoo, MI, his Uncle "Tio"Marcus Duarte Carneiro and his wife Esther Laudares Carneiro and his cousin Marianna Carneiro in Linhares, Brazil, his Uncle "Tio"Junior Carneiro, in Guarapari, Brazil, and his long time girlfriend Cherie Marshall, in Kalamazoo, MI. He also had several other relatives in Kalamazoo and Brazil. He emigrated from Brazil when he was eight with his mother where he first attended Gull Road Elementary in Kalamazoo. He wrestled for Hillside Middle School and also played football for Portage Northern High School where he graduated in 2000 with Highest Honors. During his Senior year he made the "Who's Who of High School Students." In early 2002, he met his long time girlfriend Cherie Marshall. The two quickly fell in love. Was an avid fan of U of M, which he attended on a scholarship for two years. He returned to Kalamazoo and received his Bachelor's in Sociology and Spanish from Western Michigan University in 2008. He was attending Thomas M. Cooley Law School full time in Grand Rapids pursuing a Jurisprudence Doctorate degree. Carlos loved to spend quiet evenings talking with his friends and family or watching the Wolverines or the Bears. During the World Cup he would never miss a game and loved rooting for his home country of Brazil in all Soccer games. He loved Formula 1 racing and the speed and power of cars. Friends will meet the family at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Kalamazoo, 49009 on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 10 am to 12 noon. Services will start at 12 noon and an interment at South Portage Cemetery follows. After which, there will be a reception for friends and family. The location is yet to be determined.
