VANDER ROEST, Carl, Sr.
Portage, Michigan On Friday, January 23, 2009, Carl was promoted to Glory and went home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born November 22, 1916, in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of John and Adrianna Langerveld Vander Roest and had been a life long area resident. Carl was an active member of Faith Church, serving as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School teacher, Youth Group leader, Young at Heart leader and was a member of the Friendly Visitors. Carl also made evangelism calls and passed out Bibles to the community. On August 20, 1940, he was united in marriage with the former Helena Verhulst, who preceded him in death on September 27, 2008. Carl was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Everett and Laurence. Surviving are: four children, Carl Elaine Vander Roest, Jr. of Portage, Rev. John Judie Vander Roest of Zeeland, David Mary Ann Vander Roest of Kalamazoo and Marlene Jim Zink of South Haven; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother-in-law, Mel Woolley of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Following a private family committal service, a memorial service will be held 11:00 Tuesday morning at Faith Church, 7200 Angling Rd., with Rev. Roy Ackermann officiating.
