MEADOWS, Carl O.
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, February 19, 2009. Carl was born July 4, 1920, in Brown Township, Iowa, the son of the late William and Myra Gilman Meadows and has been a longtime area resident. During WW II from 1942-46, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later was employed for many years as a printing pressman with Doubleday Brothers prior to his retirement. He also worked as a carpenter including masonry work, building many homes, several in which he resided in. Carl was a long standing member of the Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene. He also had several other interests - he once went up in a hot air balloon, in a Ford tri-motor, and a float plane. Making stained glass windows and pictures was another activity Carl enjoyed and his family is still enjoying his handiwork. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth E. Meadows in 1967; 2 brothers, Roy and Lloyd Meadows. On February 10, 1968, Carl was married to the former Joan M. Fonner VonEitzen who preceded him in death on November 21, 2008. Surviving are his children, David Sharon Meadows, Thomas Patricia Meadows, Sharon James Stevenson, Susan Jerry Shepherd, Diane Keith Johnson, Shirley Donald Hoogstraten; step-sons, Timothy Deborah VonEitzen, Thomas Kathleen VonEitzen; 31 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 brothers, Laurn Arlene and Alvin Tonya Meadows; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Monday at Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene 5625 Oakland Drive with Rev. Jeff McVay officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials in Carl's memory may be directed to First Church of the Nazarene; the Indian Lake Nazarene Camp; or Hospice Care of SW Michigan. www.langelands .com for online registry and condolences.
